MM! ( jap. え む え む っ! , Emu Emu!, M = masochism ) is a light novel series written by Akinari Matsuno and illustrated by QP: flapper . It is about the student Tarō Sado, who has an extreme tendency to masochism and thus repeatedly brings himself into unfamiliar situations, to which his school friends also contribute, as they also have extreme character traits. The series of novels has been published by Media Factory since 2007 , where twelve volumes were published by September 2010. The light novel remained unfinished, however, as Matsuno died unexpectedly on April 18, 2011.

The plot was adapted both as a manga in 2008 and through an anime television series produced by Xebec , which appeared in 2010.

action

The protagonist of MM! is the high school student Tarō Sado ( 砂 戸 太郎 , Sado Tarō ), who tends to masochism since childhood . In school he is confronted with various problems because he is seen as a pervert. However, he is not the only one who suffers from a behavior disorder, as almost all other characters appearing also have serious psychological problems.

The starting point for the plot is Taro's love for a woman he does not know by name, but whom he does not want to face as long as he still feels his tendency towards masochism. In order to do something about it, he asks Mio Isurugi ( 石 動 美 緒 , Isurugi Mio ) for help, who is the head of the 2nd volunteer club ( 第二 ボ ラ ン テ ィ ア 部 , dai-ni borantia bu ), which is supposed to take care of the problems of students. However, Mio herself has a superiority complex and considers herself a goddess. She uses his disposition to live it out particularly intensely, whereby she regularly abuses Tarō and thus shows a tendency to sadism , but sometimes also shows signs of affection for him. Mio receives support from school doctor Michiru Onigawara ( 鬼 瓦 み ち る , Onigawara Michiru ), with whom she has a very close relationship. Like Mio, Michiru has a sadistic streak and enjoys letting other people appear as cosplayers in order to photograph them in embarrassing poses. So both develop different plans together to drive Taro out of his masochism with the use of force, but this has dubious success.

His lover is Tatsukichi Hayama ( 葉 山 辰 吉 , Hayama Tatsukichi ), his best friend and classmate, who secretly disguises himself as a woman. At least Taro's first love falls victim to a crossdresser . Nevertheless, the two friends can get along well later, as Tatsukichi, for his part, supported Tarō for a long time, knowing full well his preferences.

While Tarō visited the club for the first time, he also met Mios assistant Arashiko Yūno ( 結 野 嵐 子 , Yūno Arashiko ). However, Yūno suffers from androphobia , the fear of men. Taro's attempts to get closer to her initially fail completely because her fear is expressed in extreme readiness to use violence. Over time, she partially manages to get rid of this behavior towards Taro, which has its limits with physical contact, although she falls in love with him, but it does not bring him to reveal her feelings. To his bad luck, Arashiko's childhood friend Yumi Mamiya ( 間 宮 由 美 , Mamiya Yumi ) joins , who is initially looking for a lesbian relationship with Arashiko. Accordingly, she is hostile towards Taro. But when she sees Tatsukichi disguised as a woman, she falls in love with him. Not knowing that he is a man, mind you.

In Volume 5 Noa Hiiragi ( 柊 ノ ア , Hiiragi Noa ) joins them, who has an IQ of 200 but suffers from the fact that she looks like an elementary school student. She later falls in love with Taro. Noa runs the invention club with her assistant Yukinojō Himura ( 日 村 雪 之 丞 , Himura Yukinojō ), who is handsome but a lolicon and therefore only interested in Noa.

His sister Shizuka Sado ( 砂 戸 静香 , Sado Shizuka ) and his mother Tomoko Sado ( 砂 戸 智子 , Sado Tomoko ), who are both in love with their brother and son and looking for an incestuous relationship , also join these curious figures . So they react very jealously as soon as Taro is near another girl. But this also applies to their relationships with one another, where they are in constant competition for Taro's favor.
