The mOcean is a One Design - daysailer from Switzerland . The national unit class is approved for eight people. However, the yacht can also be sailed one-handed. The recommended team size for regattas is three to five people.

history

The mOcean was designed by Simon Brügger (two-time Olympic participant) and Olivier Lüthold (head of competitive sports, Swiss Sailing 1996-2004) and designed by Seb Schmidt and Damian Cardenoso and their Seb Schmidt architecte naval sàrl in Geneva. In 2008, Bootbau Dominik Schenk made the prototype in Ermatingen. The Daysailor was specially designed for Sailbox (boat sharing, events, training), a not-for-profit organization of the Swiss Sailing Association. After successful tests with the prototype, mOcean Boats outsourced the production to Sweden, where four yachts were produced. QN-Yachts has been producing mOcean in its production facility in Tettnang (southern Germany) since 2010 .

hull

The hull of the mOcean is around 8 meters long and is made of epoxy resin using a vacuum injection process. Due to length restrictions (certain lakes or berths) there is also a shorter version of 7.5 meters. However, this is completely identical in operation. A chine is indicated. The mOcean is equipped with an elastic rubber bow made of PU integral foam. The bow is attached with four screws and can easily be replaced.

Rigging, rigging, sails

The mOcean is sailed with a mainsail , headsail , spinnaker and / or gennaker . In boat sharing, only the gennaker is available, while in the match race the spinnaker is used exclusively. The mainsail is fully battened and has a big Square top . The mOcean has two trapezoids ; but no backstay and no backstay . The sail area can be reduced using the furling jib or the two reefs in the main sail. Peppers and trim linen were in mOcean reduced to a minimum to the yacht as simple as possible and to keep uncomplicated. Therefore, the yacht is ideal as a club, event and boat sharing yacht.

Auxiliary engine

The daysailer is equipped as standard with an electric motor from the torqeedo brand . The motor has an output of around 1.8 kW or 3 kW in the more powerful version. They are almost noiseless. It is built into the fuselage with an electric lifting system. The battery is charged with electricity or with solar panels.
