John Jerome Cunneen
John Jerome Cunneen (born May 5, 1932 in Ashburton , New Zealand , † November 9, 2010 in Christchurch ) was Roman Catholic Bishop of Christchurch .
Life
John Jerome Cunneen studied at Holy Name Seminary in Riccarton (1947-1950), Holy Cross Seminary in Mosgiel (1951-1952) and at All Hallows College in Dublin (1952-1956). The Bishop of Christchurch, Edward Michael Joyce , dedicated Cunneen on 8 July 1956 to the priest . Cunneen has served in pastoral care in the parishes of Chatham Islands, Timaru North, Rangiora, Oxford, Dallington, Addington, Bishopdale and Burnside, and at the Cathedral of the Diocese of Christchurch.
Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Eanach Dúin on October 6, 1992 and appointed him auxiliary bishop in Christchurch. Bishop John Basil Meeking of Christchurch ordained him episcopal on November 30 of that year ; Co- consecrators were Thomas Stafford Cardinal Williams , Archbishop of Wellington , and Thomas A. White , Apostolic Nuncio in Nauru and New Zealand and Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Fiji . His motto was "Faithful in Service". He was named Bishop of Christchurch on December 15, 1995, and installed in office on March 19, 1996. Cunneen was appointed to the Pontifical Council “Cor Unum” in 1995 by Pope John Paul II .
