Thomas A. White

Thomas A. White (born August 12, 1931 in Durrow , † May 7, 2017 in Gowran , County Kilkenny , Ireland ) was an Irish clergyman , Roman Catholic archbishop and diplomat of the Holy See .

Life

Thomas A. White was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Ossory on February 15, 1956 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on May 27, 1978 Apostolic Nuncio in Rwanda and Titular Archbishop of Sebana . The Cardinal Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples , Agnelo Rossi , ordained him episcopal on July 30th of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Donald J. Herlihy , Bishop of Ferns , and Peter Birch , Bishop of Ossory.

On March 1, 1983, he was appointed Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Ethiopia . Pope John Paul II appointed him Apostolic Pro-Nuncio in Fiji and New Zealand on October 14, 1989 . On December 1, 1992, he was also appointed Apostolic Nuncio in Nauru . In 1993, with the appreciation of diplomatic relations, he was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to New Zealand.

On April 27, 1996, John Paul II accepted his resignation for health reasons.
