Scale series

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A series of scales (also series of scales ) is a series of publications, mostly of official maps , which differ in terms of integral and thus easily comparable scales . Typical scale series range from 1: 1000 or 1: 5000 as the largest scale to 1: 1 million as the smallest scale.

purpose

All scales of a scale series are characterized by the same or very similar degrees of fineness of the drawing and the content. In this way, they meet the specific and often diametrically opposed wishes of map users, since each scale in a series of scales usually covers the entire national territory without gaps. For example, the topographic map series on a scale of 1: 50,000 is suitable as a basis for hiking maps , while the four times smaller topographic map series 1: 200,000 is also suitable as a basis for road maps .
