Ma Ruichen

Ma Ruichen ( Chinese  馬瑞辰  /  马瑞辰 , W.-G. Ma Jui-ch'en ; born 1782 ; died 1853 ), zi : Yuanbo 元 伯 , was a Chinese Confucian philologist from the Qing Dynasty .

life and work

Ma was from Tongcheng, Anhui Province . After years of civil service, he returned to his hometown and concentrated on classical studies. He taught at the White Deer Grotto Academy ( 白鹿洞 书院 ) in Jiangxi , the Yishan Academy ( 峄 山 书院 ) in Shandong and the Luyang Academy ( 庐阳 书院 ) in Anhui. He is the author of a famous commentary on the Book of Songs in Mao's version ( Maoshi 毛诗 ), which in the collective work jingjie Huang Qing xubian was welcomed.
