Mabel Fonseca

Mabel Fonseca Ramírez (born May 8, 1972 in Guantánamo ) is a former Puerto Rican wrestler .

Born in Cuba, the freestyle wrestler won silver at the Pan American Championships in 2000 in the class up to 56 kg. In 2001 she started in the class up to 62 kg and won the gold medal. At the world championships in the same year she was 13th. 2002 she won gold at the Pan American championships and bronze at the world championships in the class up to 59 kg. 2003 Fonseca was both at the Pan American Championships and at the Pan American Games third in the class up to 62 kg and fifth at the World Championships in the class up to 55 kg.

At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , she finished fifth. However, she tested positive for stanozolol during the doping control and was banned for two years. After their suspension, Fonseca won silver in the class up to 59 kg at the Central America and Caribbean Games in 2006 . In 2007 she was third in the class up to 63 kg at both the Pan American Championships and the Pan American Games .
