Maciej Staręga (born January 31, 1990 in Siedlce ) is a Polish cross-country skier .

Career

Staręga has been competing in the Slavic Cup since 2005 . He has won five so far and took second place in the overall standings in the 2010/11 and 2011/12 seasons. He completed his first World Cup race in November 2010 in Gällivare , which he finished with 98th place over 15 km freestyle. In January 2011 he got his first World Cup points in Liberec with 29th place in the sprint. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 2011 he finished 54th over 15 km classic and 33rd place in the sprint. His best results at the Nordic World Ski Championships 2013 in Val di Fiemme were 41st place in the sprint and 12th place in the team sprint. In December 2013 in Asiago he achieved his best World Cup results to date with ninth place in the sprint and seventh place in the team sprint. His best results at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi were 66th place over 15 km classic and 15th place in the relay and in the team sprint. He finished the 2013/14 season in 59th place in the overall World Cup ranking and 23rd place in the sprint ranking. At the Nordic Opening 2014 in Lillehammer he finished 79th and 2015 in Ruka 56th place. His best results at the 2015 Nordic World Ski Championships in Falun were 38th in the sprint and eighth in the team sprint. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 in Lahti , he and Dominik Bury finished tenth in the team sprint and eighth in the sprint. The following year he ran at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang on 82nd place over 15 km freestyle, 38th place in the sprint and 13th place together with Dominik Bury in the team sprint. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2019 in Seefeld in Tirol , he finished 59th over 15 km classic, 30th place in the sprint and 18th place together with Dominik Bury in the team sprint.
