Madan Lal Puri
Madan Lal Puri (born February 20, 1929 in Sialkot ) is an Indian mathematician , active in the field of statistics .
Puri studied mathematics at Panjab University and came to the USA in 1957 , where he studied and taught at the University of Colorado . He received his doctorate in 1962 from the University of California, Berkeley with the dissertation Asymptotic Efficiency of a Class of C-Sample Tests under Erich Leo Lehmann . He later worked at New York University and from 1968 at Indiana University .
His mathematical contributions are in the field of probability theory , extreme value distributions , time series and parameter-free tests . The Sen-Puri-Test is named after him and Pranab Kumar Sen. With Sen, he published Nonparametric Methods in Multivariate Analysis in 1971 .
In 2014 Puri received the Wilks Memorial Award .
