Maddly Bamy
Maddly Bamy , actually Hélène Bamy (* 1943 in Pointe-à-Pitre , Guadeloupe ) is a French actress and author . She was a lover of the Belgian chansonnier Jacques Brel and lived by his side in Hiva Oa for the last few years .
Life
Hélène Bamy grew up on Grande-Terre in Guadeloupe before moving to Paris with her mother and four siblings in 1953 . The father, who worked in a distillery , stayed behind in Guadeloupe. After school, Hélène, who adopted the stage name Maddly , applied to the ORTF . She played a few small roles in film productions and became an accompanist for the chansonnier Claude François , one of the so-called clodettes .
In 1971 she was hired to play a small supporting role in Claude Lelouch's film Die Entführer Lassen sich greetings . During the filming, she met Jacques Brel , who played one of the main roles. Maddly Bamy became Brel's lover, accompanied him in 1974 on his planned circumnavigation and in 1976 settled with Brel on Hiva Oa , one of the Marquesas islands in French Polynesia .
Since Brel's death in 1978, Maddly Bamy has mainly been active as a writer, with her books mostly dedicated to the memory of the deceased chansonnier. In 1981 she published her memories of the years together with Brel under the title Tu leur diras . In 2000, her first novel, La Rivière sans rives, was published .
