Magdalen Green
The Magdalen Green is a public park in the Scottish city of Dundee in the same council area .
description
The 6.9 hectare Magdalen Green, which has been in use for around 400 years, is probably the oldest green space in Dundee. It stretches along a slope west of the city center and is only separated from the north bank of the Firth of Tay by the A85 . The Dundee Esplanade station on the eastern edge was in operation until 1956 . At the level of Magdalen Green, the railway line turns onto the Firth-of-Tay Bridge . To the west is Dundee Airport .
pavilion
In the middle of the park there is a pavilion (Magdalen Green Bandstand). It was produced in 1889 by the Glasgow- based Saracen Foundry . The cast iron pavilion rests on a concrete foundation. The columns capitals of the octagonal building have parallels to the Corinthian order on. Filigree ornamented throws create a surrounding segmental arcade between the columns . An ornamented frieze runs around it. The overhanging curved roof is finished with terminal antefixes . In 1990 the pavilion was restored.
In 1986 the building was included in the Scottish monument lists, initially in category B. The upgrade to the highest monument category A took place in 1991.
