Magdalene of Hessen-Kassel

Magdalene von Hessen-Kassel (born August 25, 1611 in Kassel , † February 12, 1671 in Bedburg ) was a princess of Hessen-Kassel and by marriage old countess of Salm-Reifferscheid .

Life

Magdalene was a daughter of Landgrave Moritz von Hessen-Kassel (1572–1632) from his marriage to Juliane (1587–1643), daughter of Count Johann von Nassau-Dillenburg .

She married on the mediation of Otto von der Malsburg on April 27, 1646 in Rotenburg, former count Erich Adolf zu Salm-Reifferscheid (1619–1673). At the time of the marriage, Magdalene was of an advanced age for her time. She had previously lived with her mother for a long time. After the marriage, her brother Ernst judged his sister: “ [...] an old box, because otherwise she didn't know. “Erich Adolf was not only considered lower in rank than Magdalene, but was also a Roman Catholic . Magdalene remained a Protestant but was buried in a Franciscan convent at the behest of her husband. Their children were also raised Catholics.
