Maha Nakhon ( Thai มหานคร ) is 313 meters and 77 floors, the second tallest building in Bangkok . Construction on the Chong Nonsi Skytrain station in Bang Rak district began in 2011, and the official opening took place on August 29, 2016. The architect is the German Ole Scheeren , who was a partner of the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) at the beginning of the project .

The project consists of the tower and a seven-storey, cube-shaped outbuilding called the Cube . This was completed in late 2013 and opened in early 2014; it houses retail stores and restaurants (including a restaurant by French star chef Joël Robuchon ).

The facade of the main building is characterized by a spiral band of staggered, box-shaped elements, which enable terraces and balconies and, from a distance, create the impression of a “pixelated” helix carved into the surface. The majority of the space will be used for 200 apartments with hotel-like service from the Ritz-Carlton chain , but there will also be a five-star “ boutique hotel ” with 150 rooms (in collaboration with Marriott International and the American hotel entrepreneur Ian Schrager) and a roof bar be accommodated.

In 2018, the building was one of the five finalists for the Frankfurt International High- Rise Award , along with the eventual winner Torre Reforma , Beirut Terraces , Chaoyang Park Plaza and Oasia Hotel Downtown .
