Mahiro Maeda

Mahiro Maeda ( Japanese 前 田 真 宏 , Maeda Mahiro ; born March 14, 1963 in Yonago , Tottori Prefecture ) is a Japanese director, animator and character designer.

biography

At the beginning of his career Maeda worked as an animator at Studio Ghibli , where he worked on works such as Nausicaä from the Valley of the Winds , The Castle in the Sky and Porco Rosso . Later he worked mainly with the Gonzo studio , of which he was co-founder, and worked as a director on animes such as Blue Submarine No.6 , Final Fantasy Unlimited or Gankutsuō . For the latter he also drew the manga .

As a figure and mecha designer, he was also responsible for several animes, such as Neon Genesis Evangelion , Mahō Tsukai Tai! , The Vision of Escaflowne , Last Exile or Gunbuster .

Over the course of his career, Maeda has also worked with well-known Hollywood directors, for example with Quentin Tarantino as the animator for the anime sequence in Kill Bill Vol. 1 or with Lana Wachowski and Andy Wachowski as the director, figure and mecha designer of two short films by Animatrix anthology ( The Second Renaissance Part I and The Second Renaissance Part II ).
