May Tagami

Mai Tagami ( Japanese 田 上 麻衣 , Tagami Mai ; born January 22, 1980 in Kobe ) is a Japanese marathon runner .

On her debut in 1999, she became the national student champion in 2:39:37 h. In 2002, she finished eighth in the Boston Marathon in 2:32:00. In 2003 she was tenth in the Osaka Women's Marathon and third in the Hokkaidō Marathon . In 2004 she set her personal record in the half marathon as third in the Kagawa Marugame Half Marathon with 1:11:18 h and was, also with the best time, second in the Hokkaidō Marathon in 2:29:43 h. In 2006 she came back in second place at the Hokkaidō Marathon. In 2008 she was sixth in the Nagoya Marathon , fourth in the Hokkaidō Marathon and won the Melbourne and Athens Marathons .

Mai Tagami is a graduate of Tsukuba University . She lives in Chiba and is trained by Yoshio Koide, who already looked after Olympic champion Naoko Takahashi .
