Hugo Helfenstein

Hugo Helfenstein (born March 22, 1953 in Münchenstein ) is a Swiss jazz musician . He plays the trombone , trumpet and flugelhorn .

Live and act

After dropping out of natural science studies at the University of Zurich , he studied trombone at the Zurich Conservatory and later at the Bern Conservatory in the soloist class of Branimir Slokar. As a freelance musician , he worked in the fields of jazz , rock , pop and classical music . He has worked in various orchestras and bands , such as the Winterthur City Orchestra , Zurich Opera House , Swiss Horns, DRS Big Band and Pepe Lienhard . He played at the Jazz Festival Cologne , the Jazz Festival Willisau , the Jazz Week Burghausen , the Leverkusener Jazztage and in the musicals Cats , Cabaret , Rent , La Cage Aux Folles , Chicago , West Side Story , Rollschuhpalast, Edith Piaf, and in the soundtrack of Leo Sonnyboy and Knie in the circus . He played with musicians as diverse as Polo Hofer , Art Lande , Daniel Schnyder , Urs Blöchlinger , Andreas Vollenweider , Beny Rehmann , Marianne Racine and Christoph Marthaler .

He was visiting professor at the Conservatory in Biel and a teacher, conductor , sound engineer , web designer and webmaster , responsible for the music electronics department at the music school of the city ​​of Zug . In 2000 he gave up all activities and switched from the trombone to the trumpet. He also studied multimedia producer at the SAE Institute in Zurich and did interactive programming on the Internet . He also produced and programmed multimedia and audio CDs.

Helfenstein lives in Zug . As a jazz trumpeter and flugelhorn player, he plays in various small pieces, composes and arranges.
