geography
The Stadt Kreis divides the municipality of Winterthur from north to south in the middle. In addition to the old town, the center of the city, it includes the centrally located districts of Tössfeld, Brühlberg and Neuwiesen, which are located in the west of the city. In the south lies the Heiligberg quarter, which comprises the eastern half of the Eschenberg city forest and the eastern half of the width on the slope of the Eschenberg. In the north lies the Lind quarter, which extends over the Lindberg hill from which it is named .
education
In the city district there are seven kindergartens (Äusseres Lind, Frohberg, Inneres Lind, Neuwiesen, Tössfeld, Tössfeld Pavillon and the Sprachheilkindergarten Inneres Lind), five primary schools (Altstadt, Brühlberg, Geiselweid, Neuwiesen and Tössfeld) as well as the secondary schools in Heiligberg and St. Georgen. The entire city-wide offer of the gifted and gifted promotion "Exploratio" is also housed in the St. Georgen school building. In addition to the schools for compulsory education, all of the city's higher schools and the three city high schools are located in the «city» district. The Büelrain high school is located behind the technical center not far from the old town and the Im Lee and Rychenberg schools are next to each other on Lindberg. Part of the 10th school years (BWS and BFS), various vocational schools (BBW, ZAG and KV Winterthur) and universities ( ZHAW and ZHdK ) are located in the city district because of the central location.
history
The first settlement in the area of today's old town was around 600 to 700 AD, although this settlement was initially in competition with Oberwinterthur . Only later, when the Kyburger took over the town planning, was Winterthur able to maintain its supremacy. From then on, the history of Winterthur is roughly congruent with the history of the city of Winterthur. Part of the former district area was separated in 1973 and, together with part of the Lakes district, raised to an independent Mattenbach district .
