Toni Vescoli (born July 18, 1942 in Zurich ) is a Swiss musician and singer-songwriter . In the 1960s he was one of the first Swiss rock and roll interpreters.

Career

Vescoli grew up in Peru and Küsnacht ZH . His musical career began during his training as a structural draftsman . Songs from the Everly Brothers were rehearsed with classmates . In the “Schwarzer Ring” café in Zurich's Niederdorf district , he found his first permanent engagement for a fee of CHF 10.-.

In 1962 he founded the band Les Sauterelles (French: “Die Heuschrecken”), with which he toured extensively and performed up to 350 concerts a year. The level of awareness in Switzerland was correspondingly high, so that the first single, the instrumental piece "Hong Kong", also became a bestseller. In the same year the band played in the opening act for Cliff Richard & The Shadows . This year there were various tours at home and abroad (ČSSR, Canta-Giro , Adamo , Rolling Stones etc.) as well as some TV appearances. The second Sauterelles hit “Heavenly Club” was in the Swiss charts for 13 weeks in 1968, 7 of them at number 1. The song was also number 1 on Radio Luxemburg and Südwestfunk .

In 1970 the band Les Sauterelles broke up and Toni Vescoli started a solo career. His dialect album “Lueg für dich” includes the song “Susann”, which was covered by Reinhard Mey . Vescoli worked for four years alongside his appearances on Swiss television, but then relied entirely on his musician career. Later he also played in the trio tame together with Töbi Tobler (dulcimer) and Bruno Brandenberger and also tried his hand at High German (“I thought tonight”). The dialect songs "Scho root" (1975) and " N1 " (1983) are known from numerous radio appearances .

Vescoli fostered different styles of music throughout his career, from a “Swiss Bob Dylan ” to country music . Well-known guest musicians often play on his solo albums, for example Augie Meyers (from the Texas Tornados ) or Joe Ely . He continues to perform with the 1996 reunited Sauterelles or the Ethno Country Rock Show .

Since 1977 Vescoli has also been known as the fairy tale narrator of the trio APV-Image-Produktion- and the Pingu- Hörspiele, which are aimed at children of preschool age. Various cover pictures of the radio plays are painted by him.

He lived with his family in Wila and Tenerife for over 30 years . In 2008 he moved from Tösstal to Wald ZH .

In 2009 Toni Vescoli and the reunited Les Sauterelles , the former Swiss Beatles , were invited to Beatle Week , which takes place every August in Liverpool .
