Life

Golden pearls of folk music

After initial attempts with an accordion , he switched to the trumpet at the age of 16. The trained car body tinsmith founded his first formation in 1963 with three teammates. Although Rehmann comes from the Aargau district of Laufenburg , the quartet was called Die Lustigen Tiroler Musikanten . A year later he founded his orchestra, which was mostly in the Oberkrainer style and consisted of five to six men each. They appeared as the Beny Rehmann Quintet , Beny Rehmann Sextet and most recently as the Beny Rehmann Show Orchestra and achieved great success in Europe and partly overseas. Most of the pieces of music - especially the evergreen “Schiffsfeger-Polka” - were composed by the band leader himself. Many of the titles contain lyrics, some in Swiss German.

Vito Cordani, Wolfgang Simon, Beny Rehmann

In 1979 the then still unknown Beny Rehmann was engaged by Vito Cordani, managing director of K-tel International Switzerland and Italy, for the project entitled “Pearls of Folk Music”. The recordings produced by K-tel, with an expensive television campaign by K-tel Int. AG massively supported, helped "Beny Rehmann and his funny musicians" for the first time in the Swiss hit parade. With over 40,000 units sold in Switzerland, Beny Rehmann received his first gold record .

"Pearls of Folk Music" was followed by "Romantic Dreams", the second project by Vito Cordani with Beny Rehmann. At the same time, it was the first trumpet concept with titles selected by Rehmann such as “ Strangers in the Night ”, “ El cóndor pasa ” or the film melody for Doctor Zhivago . Of these, 25,000 recordings ( LP and MC ) were sold throughout Switzerland . "Romantic Dreams", which was subsequently published with television advertising by Wolfgang Simon, Managing Director of K-tel GmbH in Vienna, also sold a further 50,000 records in Austria. In addition to the Golden LP for Switzerland, Beny Rehmann was able to crown his first international success with a Golden LP from Austria.

Other publications advertised by K-tel with TV spots followed, such as “Filmfestival” in 1980 (trumpet) and “Mood Parade” in 1981 (Beny Rehmann Quintet). With them, Beny Rehmann continued his international career. In 1989 he was awarded a gold or platinum record in Switzerland for the albums Love at First Sight and 25 Years Anniversary Melodies .

Rehmann's most important player was Hans Bracher, who comes from the Emmental and calls himself Housi . In 1993 the six musicians gave their farewell concert. Since then, Beny Rehmann has performed as a trumpet soloist. He lived in Strengelbach in the Aargau district of Zofingen .

At the end of 2014, Rehmann had to undergo a lower leg amputation . He had suffered from circulatory disorders for years . On December 19, 2014, Beny Rehmann died in a hospital in the canton of Aargau at the age of 78.
