Maik Baier (born June 20, 1989 in Bietigheim-Bissingen ) is a German cyclist in the Bicycle Moto Cross discipline .

Maik Baier is an apprentice industrial mechanic and lives in Walheim . Because of the sport, his training from his training company Daimler-Benz , vocational school and Chamber of Industry and Commerce was extended to five years, usually from three years . He started his sport in 1996, in 2008 he moved to the Olympic base in Cottbus for some time . He starts for the Motorsport Club Bönnigheim and belongs to the BMX Air Team . In 2003 and 2005 he was German junior champion. The first international men's championship was the 2008 World Championships in Taiyuan , where he was eliminated in the individual preliminaries. A year later Baier achieved his best international result so far at the European Championships in Fredericia with fifth place in the individual. In the European ranking of the year he was in second place. In 2011 he was first in Haaksbergen at the European Championships 21st, then at the World Championships in Copenhagen 39th 2011 and 2012 he was also German runner-up in the individual. The 2012 European Championships in Orléans , where Baier finished 63rd, were less successful . He is qualified for the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and is currently 57th in the international rankings, two years earlier he was 100. With his teammate Luis Brethauer , he is the first German Olympic participant in BMX cycling.
