Maja Andreevna Petrowa ( Russian Майя Андреевна Петрова , scientific transliteration Majja Andreevna Petrova ; born May 26, 1982 in Volgograd , Soviet Union ; born Maja Andrejewna Kawerina ) is a former Russian handball player .
Career
Petrova began playing handball at a school in Volgograd when he was eleven. From the age of 17 she was in the squad of the Russian first division club AKWA Volgograd . With Volgograd, she won the championship in 2001. The cyclist has been under contract with GK Rostov-on-Don since 2003 . With Rostov she won the Russian Cup in 2007, 2008, 2012 and 2015, the Russian Championship in 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 and the EHF Cup in 2017 . She ended her career after the 2019/20 season.
Petrowa played 77 games for the Russian national team , in which they scored 86 goals. With Russia, she won in 2009 the World Cup and finished 2008 ranked third in the European Championship. She won the gold medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro . She won the silver medal at the 2018 European Championships .
Petrowa took part in several beach handball tournaments. In 2004 she won the World Championship and the European Championship.
