Gameplay

The gameplay of Majesty 2 is essentially the same as its predecessor. The player slips into the role of the King of Ardania and must try to master the tasks assigned to him by building buildings and recruiting and upgrading heroes. All units are not directly controllable, but look for their own tasks, whereby the player can indirectly influence the behavior of the heroes by setting flags of attack, exploration flags, warning flags, fear flags and protection flags. Up to four symbols of rule are also available to the player: The cloak of Teevus, which restores the hero's health, Sidrian's orb, which increases the amount of gold collected, Sidrian's scepter, which damages enemies and the Crown of Ardania, which the spirit of the Call kings.

action

Five centuries ago, a great monarch succeeded in clearing the chaos in Ardania and unifying the kingdom. Since then, many other rulers have followed his example in order to earn the royal title with great deeds. However, the last king, Leonard I, was not allowed to commit glorious heroic deeds, as the country was almost completely pacified. So he had the mighty demon Barlog, the baron of logic, summoned to go down in history as the greatest ruler of Ardania by destroying him. In the following battle, however, he was defeated by the Horned and so Barlog ascended the royal throne.

As the last descendant of the great kings and queens, it is the player's job to regain the throne. In addition to giant rats , rat men, wolves , werewolves , bears , bear men, flying snakes, little devils and demons, skeletons , zombies , ghosts , lichen , vampires , minotaurs , ogres , fire and lightning elementals as well as dragons, they also have their rivals and opponents like defeat the rat king and the skeleton king.

Buildings and Heroes

As with its predecessor, the basic building in Majesty 2 is the palace. If this is destroyed, the player loses the game. Guilds and temples can be built to hire heroes. Almost all other buildings are used to sell equipment to the heroes. The five basic guilds are the Warrior Guild, the Rogue Guild, the Forest Ranger Guild, the Cleric Guild and the Wizard Guild. After the palace, the forge and the market place have been upgraded to level 2, elves and dwarves can be hired. From palace level 3 it is possible to build eight different temples, which can only be built on given “sacred ground”. Once a temple has been built, new heroes can be hired there or guild heroes can be upgraded to temple heroes for gold. Warriors become paladins (Dauros temple) or blade masters (Krolm temple), crooks become assassins (Lunord temple), forest rangers become animal masters (Fervus temple) or Helia archers (Helia temple), clerics become crypts - Priestesses (crypt temple) or Agrela priestesses (Agrela temple) and magicians become ice magicians (ice temples). The guild buildings, the dwarf house and the elf mansion can be expanded and offer skills for the respective heroes as well as spells for purchase. Additional spells are available for purchase in most temples. Trading posts, like temples, can only be set up in specified spaces.

Each type of hero has its own preferences. For example, forest rangers like to explore the area, while crooks are more interested in rewards. All heroes have different names and can gain experience and level up. After each mission, a single hero is raised to the rank of lord, which means that he retains his experience, skills and equipment and can be recruited again in subsequent missions in the Hall of Lords. It is also possible to group heroes.

Extensions

The first expansion Majesty 2: Kingmaker was released on March 26, 2010 for Windows and December 12, 2010 for Mac OS. It contains a map editor, the goblins as new monsters and a campaign with 8 scenarios in which the aim is to end the war that has broken out with the goblins.

The second expansion Majesty 2: Battles of Ardania was released on November 10, 2010 for Windows and on December 15, 2010 for Mac OS. It contains new monsters, new weapons and a campaign with 8 scenarios in which the player has to kill a werewolf, fight off an invasion of the minotaurs, storm the city of monsters and defeat the rat paladins, among other things.

Each Grum Gog Temple built unlocks one of four additional spells for purchase. In addition, the player can also recruit stronger heroes per temple in one of his goblin or rat man guilds: Grum Gog Shamans in the Goblin Spearmen Guild, Grum Gog Masters in the Goblin Archer Guild and Grum Gog Paladins in the Rat Men Guild. In contrast to humans, where giant rats and ratmen pour out of the sewer system and skeletons and zombies from the cemetery, giant cockroaches and giant spiders appear from the garbage piles as well as devils and demons from the gates of hell.
