Maksim Grechkin ( Hebrew מקסים גרצ'קין, Born March 4, 1996 in Kiev , Ukraine ) is an Israeli soccer player with Ukrainian - Russian roots who is used in defense and primarily as a left full -back. He is since summer 2019 at Beitar Jerusalem in the Ligat ha'Al under contract, the highest league in Israeli football .

He was mainly trained in Maccabi Tel Aviv's youth academy, which had several successes and culminated in the Israeli U-19 championship in 2015. In the same year he took part in the group stage of the 2015/16 UEFA Youth League . In the course of his youth he also gained experience with the junior national teams of Israel. Grechkin is also a Ukrainian citizen .

He started playing football at Hapoel Tzafririm Holon from the city of Cholon . Grechkin soon moved to the youth department of the Israeli top club Maccabi Tel Aviv . There he was a top performer as a left full-back for many years and celebrated several club successes, including as team captain . The highlight was the 2015 Israeli U-19 Championship and the subsequent qualification for the 2015/16 UEFA Youth League , where he played five full-time matches in the group stage, against the youth teams of FC Chelsea , FC Porto and Dynamo Kiev . During this period Grechkin also gained his first experience with the U-19 national team of Israel .

Professional career

In October 2015, the 19-year-old Grechkin made his professional debut in the Israeli League Cup when he came into the game under Slaviša Jokanović in the derby away against Bne Jehuda Tel Aviv in the 68th minute for Oz Raly. In Tel Aviv Grechkin previously signed a professional contract for several years, but he should first gain his experience in the Liga Leumit , the second division in Israel, as a loan . For the 2015/16 season he was loaned directly from the U-19 Maccabis to the second division Hapoel Ironi HaScharon , where he quickly secured a regular place and made 16 appearances by the end of the season, 15 of them in the starting line-up.

He completed the following season 2016/17 at Beitar Tel Aviv Ramala . He made his game and starting eleven debut away in a 1-1 draw against Maccabi Shaarayim . In total he came to Beitar for 13 missions, eight of them from the start. He also gained his first experience in the Israeli Cup . At the end of the season he reached 3rd place in the table with his team and only just missed promotion to the 1st division. He made his debut as a Beitar player in 2016 in a friendly match for the Israeli U-21 national team against the U-21s of Cyprus .

In the 2017/18 season, Grechkin developed into an absolute top performer, again as a loan and again with the second division Hapoel Ramat HaScharon. He made his game and starting eleven debut away in a 1-1 draw against Hapoel Ramat Gan . At Hapoel he was used 28 times during the season, and he was in the starting line-up in every game.

For the 2018/19 season he was awarded to the aspiring club Hapoel Hadera , the runner-up and promoted to the 1st Israeli league . A season earlier, the club had already been promoted from the 3rd division. He played his first official game for Hadera in the League Cup on August 4, 2018, when he was on the pitch for the full time in the 3-2 defeat at Maccabi Netanya . His first division and starting eleven debut was shortly thereafter on August 25 in a 3-2 home win against Hapoel Tel Aviv .

With Hadera he was finally able to qualify for the championship round, where he scored his first goal as a left midfielder on May 13, 2019 in the game against Maccabi Haifa . Before that, he and his team made it to the semi-finals of the Israeli Cup and narrowly failed 1-0 to Maccabi Netanya. In his first first division season he managed 6th place with Hadera. He was on the field 22 times, 18 of them from the beginning. In summer 2019 he moved to Beitar Jerusalem .
