Malatyalı Süleyman Pascha ( Armenian Էրմենի Սուլեյման Փաշա Ermeni Sulejman P'ascha , Turkish Ermeni Süleyman Paşa ) - born in 1607 in Malatyalı; died February 28, 1687 - was a Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Empire . In this capacity, Ermeni Suleyman Pasha, who was also called koca , served from August 19, 1655 to February 28, 1656 under Sultan Mehmed IV (also known as "the hunter" - Avci ).

His exact origin and his exact date of birth are not certain. He was of Christian origin. The tradition that he was an Armenian is obviously doubtful and only one possibility. All we know is that he was born in 1607 in Malatya , Anatolia . He attended the Enderûn palace school as part of the boys ' harvest and initially made a career in the palace, from Tülbent ağası, Silâhdar, Kubbe veziri and over time rose to governor ( Beylerbeyi ) of the Eyâlets (major provinces) of Sivas and Erzurum . After his time as Grand Vizier he served again as Governor of Bosnia , in 1659 as Kaymakam of Istanbul . A year later he was deposed because of the major fire that raged in the city. He was charged with the task that borders against the Don Cossacks to back the government Silistres dispatched a task to which he was no match. He then became Kaymakam again in Istanbul and was deposed by the Sultan after renewed fires. In 1665 he was reinstated in the office. A year later, Süleyman Pasha became Edirne's Beylerbeyi. After one year in office he resigned and spent the last 20 years as a private individual with all the privileges.

Malatyalı Süleyman was married to the daughter of Sultan Ibrahim , Ayşe, which is why he was also called Damat Süleyman Pasha . He died at the age of 80 on February 28, 1687 and was buried in the garden of his konak .

AH de Groot described his career as characteristic of the era. Suleyman Pascha was dragged through the patronage system to which he belonged as a not particularly talented statesman.
