Malbaza is a department in the region of Tahoua in Niger .

geography

The department is located in the south of the country and borders Nigeria . It consists of the rural parishes of Doguérawa and Malbaza . The eponymous capital of the department is Malbaza.

history

The department goes back to the administrative post ( poste administratif ) of Doguérawa, which was established in 1964 and moved to Malbaza in 1973. In 2011, the administrative post was removed from the Birni-N'Konni department and raised to the Malbaza department.

population

According to the 2012 census, the Malbaza department has 232,407 inhabitants. From 2001 to 2012 the population increased by an average of 3.6% annually (nationwide: 3.9%).

administration

At the head of the department is a prefect (French: préfet ) who is appointed by the Council of Ministers on the proposal of the Minister of the Interior .
