Malcolm Archer
Malcolm Archer (* 1952 in Great Britain ) is a British organist , choir director and composer .
Life
Archer went to the King Edward VII and Queen Mary School in Lytham St Annes , Lancashire to school before becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Organists , London at the Royal College of Music in Kensington studied in London. His organ teachers included Ralph Downes , Gillian Weir and Nicolas Kynaston , among others . He studied composition with Herbert Sumsion and Alan Ridout . From 1972 to 1975 he was an organ scholar at Jesus College , Cambridge .
Working life
Archer's first positions as organist were at Bristol Cathedral and Norwich Cathedral . From 1996 to 2004 he was the organist and Master of the Choristers at Wells Cathedral . His duties included training the members of the choir for daily church services. He was also music director of the Wells Cathedral Oratorio Society , whose recordings of various concerts were widely acclaimed.
In 2004 Archer succeeded John Scott as organist and director of music at St Paul's Cathedral in London until July 2007 . Since 2007 he has been Director of Chapel Music and Organist at Winchester College , where he both teaches the organ and directs the Winchester College Chapel Choir .
Archer was a member of the board of directors of the Royal College of Organists. Since 2012 he has served on the board of directors of Salisbury Cathedral and the Guild of Church Musicians .

Compositions
In 2012, more than 200 of Archer's compositions were already in print. A special composition was the one for the birthday service for the 80th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II , which was broadcast live on the British television channel BBC One .
