Malika Benarab-Attou

Malika Benarab-Attou (born March 25, 1963 in Aïn Benian , Algeria ) is a politician of the French EELV party . From 2009 to 2014 she was a member of the European Parliament .

Malika Benarab-Attou was born in Algeria to a Kabyle family. In 1968 her parents emigrated to France, where her father worked for Renault . Benarab-Attou grew up in Les Abrets ( Arrondissement La Tour-du-Pin , Département Isère ).

Benarab-Attou studied at the École nationale supérieure de sécurité sociale and the University of Paris VIII and later worked for a health insurance company in Chambéry . After she had previously been involved in anti-racism , she joined the French green party Les Verts in 2002 .

In the European elections in France in 2009 , Benarab-Attou was elected to the European Parliament as third place on the list of Europe Ecologie in the constituency of Southeast France . There she was a member of the Committee on Culture and Education , where she also spokesperson for the Group of the Greens / EFA was. She was also a member of the delegation for relations with the Maghreb countries and the Arab Maghreb Union . In spring 2014, she moved to the left-wing Nouvelle Donne party . After the 2014 European elections , she left the European Parliament.

Benarab-Attou has both French and Algerian citizenship.
