The Mamakan ( Russian Мамакан ) is a left tributary of the Vitim in Irkutsk Oblast in southeast Siberia .
The Mamakan arises as Sredni Mamakan ("Middle Mamakan") in the Northern Muja Mountains . It flows in a predominantly northerly direction, taking in the Left Mamakan and the Right Mamakan . After 209 km, the Mamakan meets the Witim, which flows westward, at the settlement of the same name, Mamakan . The Mamakan drains an area of 9460 km². The river freezes in October. In May the Mamakan is ice-free again. The mean discharge (MQ) near the mouth is 164 m³ / s.
The mamakan is dammed directly above the mouth. The Mamakan hydropower plant ( ⊙ ), completed in 1962, has an installed capacity of 86 MW . The fall height is 45 m.
