Geographical location of Mambwe

Mambwe is a small rural location in the Eastern Province in Zambia . It is the seat of the administration of the district of the same name with 70,425 inhabitants (2000 census). The place is located 60 kilometers northwest of the provincial capital Chipata .

economy

Mambwe is considered to be the most productive district in the Eastern Province. The income from tourism and hunting in the southern Luangwa Valley , the South Luangwa National Park , is considerable. The money will go to the Zambian Wildlife Authority in Chilanga , which will only return part of it to projects in the district. The Mambwe district is therefore constantly in financial difficulties and unable to create the necessary infrastructure. In agriculture, maize is the main crop. In the dry year 2005, 16,823 people were listed as threatened with starvation and 1,615 tons of grain were requested for food aid.

Infrastructure

The district and city are easily accessible via the Great East Road . There is the Reformed Church's 62-bed Kamoto Hospital, 85 kilometers from Chipata. There is no post office in the district. Electricity was pledged for the city of Mwambwe in 2005. A developed airfield for larger aircraft is in Mfue .
