Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Mammillaria ekmanii is common in Haiti and the Dominican Republic . It was first described in 1931 by Erich Werdermann .

According to Werner Reppenhagen , Mammillaria ekmanii should only be a synonym for Mammillaria mammillaris , but this has yet to be confirmed due to the range of distribution and the differences in the thorns.

In the Red List of Threatened Species of the IUCN , the species is called " Data Deficient (DD) ", i. H. with insufficient data.
