Mammillaria eriacantha is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). Thespecific epithet eriacantha means '(Greek erion wool) woolly prickly'.

description

Mammillaria eriacantha grows solitary, rarely sprouting. The narrow cylindrical shoots are 30 to 50 centimeters high and 5 centimeters in diameter. The warts are conical in shape and have no milky sap . The axillae are bare or thickly covered with wool outside the flowering zone. The 2  central spines are golden yellow, slightly downy. They are more or less the same size, 0.8 to 1 centimeter in length. 20 to 24 radial spines are bristle-like or finely needle-like, light golden yellow. They are 0.4 to 0.5 inches long and tiny, fluffy.

The flowers are small, greenish yellow and barely protrude from the thorns. The fruits are reddish brown. They contain brown seeds .

Distribution, systematics and endangerment

Mammillaria eriacantha is common in the Mexican state of Veracruz .

It was first described in 1837 by Ludwig Georg Karl Pfeiffer . A synonym is Chilita eriacantha (Link & Otto ex Pfeiff.) Orcutt (1926).

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Vulnerable (VU) ", d. H. listed as endangered.
