career

The young player made his debut under coach Rudi Faßnacht on September 27, 1966 at the home game against VfV Hildesheim in the then second -rate regional soccer division North in the Holstein Kiel division . In the 1-0 home win, he formed the runner row in the World Cup system of the Kiel “storks” together with Lothar Kröpelin and Uwe Witt . At the end of the round, Wohlgemuth had completed 26 league appearances and Kiel had just failed to get into the promotion round to the Bundesliga with third place. In the second regional league year, 1967/68, he increased his personal record to 30 missions and scored three goals, but Holstein slipped into the middle of the table and took eighth place. Coach Faßnacht often used him as a middle runner in this round. After 56 regional league appearances (3 goals), he joined coach Faßnacht, who moved to southern Germany for the 1968/69 round and took over FC Villingen 08 in the southern regional football league .

The defensive player with strong headers also immediately belonged to the regular line-up of FC 08 from the Stadion am Friedensgrund in Villingen in southern Baden. At the side of the former Bundesliga player Klaus Bockisch and striker Gerd Klier (33-22), he helped in all 34 round matches that Villingen achieved relegation with 13th place. In his second Villingen season, 1969/70, the Faßnacht team moved up to ninth place and Wohlgemuth had played 37 games in front of goalkeeper Karl Armbrust . The sporting highlight was the game on January 3, 1970 in the DFB Cup in the first main round against Hamburger SV , which was lost with 1: 3 goals in front of a record crowd of 15,149 spectators. The FC strikers Walter Hohnhausen and Gerd Klier could not prevail decisively against the HSV defense around Arkoc Özcan and Willi Schulz . After three years with a total of 106 regional league appearances for Villingen, Wohlgemuth moved back to northern Germany. He signed a new contract for the 1971/72 round with the team from the Stadion an der Bremer Brücke, the series champions from 1969 to 1971, VfL Osnabrück .

With the purple-whites, the education student was runner-up in the Regionalliga Nord in 1972 and 1973, but failed in the following promotion rounds, where he completed 15 games. He made his debut at VfL on August 15, 1971 in the 1-0 away win at Leu Braunschweig under coach Erwin Türk at the side of teammates Werner Kamper (goalkeeper), Karl-August Tripp , Friedhelm Holtgrave , Reinhard Wasner , Gerhard Elfert and Volker Gray . In the last year of the old regional league second division, 1973/74, he was third with Osnabrück. VfL was qualified for the new substructure of the Bundesliga, the 2nd Bundesliga, for the 1974/75 season in the northern relay. In three rounds, Wohlgemuth completed 103 competitive games in the 2nd Bundesliga for Osnabrück from 1974/75 to 1976/77 under coaches Klaus-Dieter Ochs , Reinhold Ertel and Siegfried Melzig , scoring seven goals. He was consistently a member of the VfL regular formation and achieved the best placement in 1976 with sixth place. The defender played his last point game in the 2nd Bundesliga on the 37th matchday of the 1976/77 season, on May 15, 1977, in the 1: 3 away defeat against Arminia Bielefeld. Overall, he was led at VfL Osnabrück from 1971 to 1977 with 191 point games and 14 goals.

After a hernia and passing the second state examination, he gave preference to his profession as a teacher in the summer of 1977 and ended his professional career as a professional. From February 1, 1978 he was again active at 1. FC Phoenix Lübeck in the field of amateur football.
