Lothar Kröpelin (born August 6, 1937 - December 1, 1998 ) was a German football player. From 1963 to 1965, the defensive player played 24 games for Hamburger SV in the Bundesliga .

career

Kröpelin began his football career at VfB Lübeck . In the 1956/57 season he managed with the green-whites of the Lohmühle promotion to the football league north . On August 11, 1957, the talent, who had just turned 20, made his debut with VfB in the league. There was a 7-2 defeat at Werder Bremen, with Bremen half-striker Willi Schröder shining with four goals. As 15th Lübeck relegated to the amateur camp; Kröpelin had scored a goal in 22 games alongside top performers Albert "Jonny" Felgenhauer , Horst Kiow and Walter Gawletta . Immediately succeeded in 1958/59 the return to the league. In the 1959/60 season, with the 14th place, they just managed to stay in league and Kröpelin had been on the ball with a goal for Lübeck in 29 games. His performance was honored by being considered for the selection game of the North German Football Association (NFV) on April 20, 1960 in Groningen against North Holland. He played in the 3: 3 draw at the side of Horst Schnoor , Jochenfritz Meinke , Dieter Seeler , Uwe Seeler , Gert Dörfel , Ingo Porges , Peter Osterhoff , Jürgen Kurbjuhn , Dieter Thun and Willi Schröder. For the 1960/61 season he was signed by Hamburger SV . But since he was refused release by Lübeck, the talented defender was only eligible to play for HSV from the 1961/62 round.

Since this ban was not valid internationally, Kröpelin was used on November 27, 1960, in the second leg of the European Cup against Young Boys Bern in Hamburg. In the 3: 3 draw, he formed the runner row with Jürgen Werner and Dieter Seeler in the then usual World Cup system . On August 5, 1961, the man from Lübeck made his debut in the 1-0 home win against VfB Lübeck as a middle runner in the top division team of the "Rothosen". For HSV he came in the two league years under coaches Günter Mahlmann and Martin Wilke until 1963 to 17 other league appearances. Team members included Uwe Seeler, Dieter Seeler, Gert Dörfel, Horst Schnoor, Horst Dehn , Erwin Piechowiak , Jürgen Kurbjuhn, Klaus Stürmer , Gerhard Krug , Jochenfritz Meinke, Jürgen Werner and Harry Behre . In the cup final in 1963 Kröpelin was not used.

After the introduction of the Bundesliga from the 1963/64 series, it was used in 24 games for Hamburg from 1963 to 1965. The defender did not score goals at HSV. With the appearance on matchday 30, May 15, 1965, in the 2-4 home defeat against FC Schalke 04, Kröpelin said goodbye to the Bundesliga and Hamburger SV. He signed a new contract with Holstein Kiel in the North Regional Football League .

On the second day of the 1965/66 season he made his debut in the regional league. Kiel won 3-0 goals at Bremer SV and the defense of the defending champion from the north was made up of goalkeeper Franz Möck, defenders Rudolf Balsam and Uwe Witt , and the runner row with Hans Peter Ehlers , Kröpelin and Jürgen Rohweder. At the end of the round, Kiel missed entry into the promotion round with one point behind and was third on points with vice Göttingen. Kröpelin had completed 22 games. Also in his second lap he finished third with Kiel. The “storks” lost the championship on the final day, on May 15, 1967, by a 2-0 away defeat at SC Sperber Hamburg. Again they finished third behind the rival Göttingen 05 with the same number of points - with players like Friedemann Paulick , Gerd Koll , Franz-Josef Hönig , Jürgen Wohlgemuth and Hans-Joachim Weller . Kröpelin played a total of 34 appearances in the Regionalliga Nord for Kiel. He didn't score a goal in Kiel either. In 1967 he went back to Hamburg and played there for the Harburger TB .
