Klaus Mampell

Klaus Joachim Mampell (born November 1, 1916 in Mannheim , † 2000 in Salem ) was a German geneticist and writer. He was a member of Group 47 .

Life

Klaus Joachim Mampell completed his studies in biology at the University of Southern California , Los Angeles and received his PhD in genetics and experimental embryology from the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena . He was then Professor of Biology at the University of Pennsylvania , Philadelphia . During his numerous stays abroad, he lived for 20 years in the USA, 5 years in Switzerland, also 5 years in France and 1 year in Italy. He made the acquaintance of Thomas Mann , with whom he had correspondence for many years. Visiting professorships led him to the universities of Oregon, California, Virginia and Milan. He has also given guest lectures at the universities of Wisconsin, Texas, Connecticut, Princeton, Columbia, Johns Hopkins, Yale, Berkeley, Vanderbilt, Notre Dame, Zurich, Tübingen and Leiden. Most recently he lived in Immenstaad on Lake Constance .
