Man o 'War (born March 29, 1917 in Lexington (Kentucky) , † November 1, 1947 ) was one of the most successful racehorses of American thoroughbred breeding.
Racing career
The stallion won 20 of 21 races, one of which was 100 lengths ahead. He finished second in one race.
Breeding career
His most successful son was War Admiral , and his grandson Seabiscuit also had a major impact on the American horse racing scene. Man o 'War was Leading Sire from 1926.
Man o 'War died in 1947 at the age of over 30 for racehorses. He was buried in the paddock where he spent the last years of his life. 2000 people attended the funeral, which was broadcast live on the radio. A bronze statue was erected on his grave and stood there until 1976, when it was moved to Kentucky Horse Park.

It is number 1 on the list of the 100 Best American Racehorses of the 20th Century by Blood Horse Magazine.
In the US horse center in Lexington ( Kentucky ), Man-O-War Boulevard leads from the airport to the racetrack.
The bronze statue on the grave inspired Joey DeMaio to name his true metal band Manowar after this racehorse.
