The Manchester Phoenix were an ice hockey club founded in the city of Manchester in England in 2003 as the successor to Manchester Storm . You played in the British English Premier Ice Hockey League until 2017 . The games were played in the Altrincham Ice Dome until 2015 , which has a capacity of around 2,000 seats.
With the re-establishment of Manchester Storm in 2015, the club lost its venue and subsequently played its home games in the Widnes Ice Arena , Deeside Ice Arena in North Wales and the Fylde Coast Ice Arena in Blackpool, among others .
history
After the Manchester Storms team collapsed in 2002, a new professional ice hockey team was launched in 2003 on the initiative of the Friends of Manchester Ice Hockey . The Manchester Phoenix were then founding members of the Elite Ice Hockey League and played in the MEN arena, which has a capacity of 17,500 . Since the games could not be played there economically, the new Altrincham Ice Dome was built and opened in September 2007. The 2006/07 season was in Welsh Deeside held. From the 2006/07 season, the Phoenix games were played there.
In 2009, Phoenix withdrew into the second-rate English Premier Ice Hockey League (EPL) for financial reasons . Here you could win the championship in 2011 and 2014. After a dispute with the owner of the Altrincham Ice Dome, the team moved to Deeside again in 2015, while the Manchester Storm was re-established in the Altrincham Ice Dome . Phoenix developed plans for a new ice rink in the center of Manchester. In 2016 the owner of Phoenix, Freezing Point Ltd., went into bankruptcy. However, the club continued to operate.
In January 2017, the club stopped playing.
