Scott Fankhouser (born July 1, 1975 in Bismarck , North Dakota ) is a former American ice hockey goalkeeper , who was active during his playing career for the Atlanta Thrashers in the National Hockey League . Most recently he was assistant coach for the Cincinnati Cyclones .
Career
Fankhouser began his career in the National Collegiate Athletic Association , but was mainly used there as a backup goalkeeper in his first three years. It wasn't until last year that he got more stakes and was drafted by the St. Louis Blues around the same time .
Fankhouser initially completed assignments for Greenville Grrrowl in the East Coast Hockey League after his college days , but also played for teams in other minor leagues and eventually got to work with the Atlanta Thrashers in the National Hockey League . In the following years he changed teams several times in each season before coming to Europe for the first time in 2003 to play for SC Bietigheim-Bissingen in the second-highest German division . He returned to the States after just a year and had a good season for Toledo Storm in the ECHL. In the summer of 2005, the Austrian first division club EC Graz 99ers finally noticed him and signed him for a season, where he could not convince due to a very poor team performance. In the following year he moved to the Vienna Capitals , where he did not live up to expectations. After a year with Manchester Phoenix in the English Elite Ice Hockey League , he returned to the USA and was under contract with Bloomington PrairieThunder in the International Hockey League in the 2008/09 season .
At the end of the season he ended his active career and took over the position of assistant coach at Bloomington Prairie Thunders in the following two seasons under head coach Jarrod Skalde . After his departure to the Cincinnati Cyclones , Fankhouser followed him in August 2010 and also took on the role of assistant coach there. For the 2011/12 season , the American was replaced by Andrew Cassels .
