The herpes viruses are a proposed virus regulation since 2007 and since 2009 according to the decision of the ICTV . The differences in the genome structure and the phylogenetic relationship between the family Herpesviridae (from which the name of the order is derived) and two other genera separated from it, justify the new virus order. The genus Ictalurivirus has been classified in the new family Alloherpesviridae (herpes virus in fish ) and the genus Ostreavirus in the new family Malacoherpesviridae (a herpes virus species in oysters ). The old Herpesviridae family now only includes viruses in birds , mammals, and reptiles .
Systematics
The internal systematics of the herpes virus is as follows:
The origins (ancestors) of the herpes virus suggest Koonin et al. (2015, 2019) in the Caudovirales (tailed dsDNA bacteriophages ). A proposal from October 2019 was therefore officially confirmed by the ICTV in March 2020 to place both orders in a new common area “Duplodnaviria”.
