Mandara is the title of a German youth series , consisting of 12 parts of 25 minutes each, which was first broadcast on ZDF in the pre-Christmas period 1983 . The series was shot on the island of Sylt . Directed by Franz Josef Gottlieb .

The series is about an heir to the throne from a distant land who is hidden from beach pirates by the daughter of the village pharmacist. The pirates want to steal the god statue of the prince, with which he wants to free his people. A shady demon (played by Horst Frank ) is also after the statue and an amulet so that he can regain his full power.
Locations
The shooting took place almost exclusively in Berlin-Rudow . There were still scenes from the film " The Laurents ", which were converted into the village "Breemster". The scenes on the beach, in the dunes and at the marina were filmed on Sylt . The opening sequence was created in the botanical garden in Berlin.
Trivia
- The actor Stefan Ernst , who plays Shabu, was dubbed by Joachim Tennstedt .
- The series was broadcast twice by ZDF, in 1983 and 1990.
