Jürgen Knieper

Jürgen Knieper (born March 15, 1941 in Karlsruhe ) is a German composer of film music .

Career

Knieper's father Rolf Knieper was a professor at the Musikhochschule Karlsruhe and his mother Adelheid Knieper was a violinist. He studied mathematics in Heidelberg for three years . At the age of eight he had already received piano lessons from his father, and when he spontaneously replaced the piano player of the Heidelberg student cabaret "Ironing Board", his career as a musician began.

He worked as a pianist in the jazz bar " Cave " and came to Berlin with the ironing board group in 1965, where he studied composition at the University of the Arts. He was also a cabaret pianist and jazz musician in the “Old Eden” pub.

When he received an offer from Wim Wenders to compose the soundtrack for his first major feature film The Fear of the Goalie at the Penalty Kick, Knieper's career as a composer of soundtracks began. Knieper also became known to a wider audience through his musical participation in the ARD satirical series Scheibenwischer and the theme music for Lindenstrasse .
