Manduca brontes is a Nachtfalterart from the family of moth (Sphingidae). In English, the butterfly species is also known as the Cuban Sphinx Moth ("Cuban Sphinx Moth"). The first description was in 1773 by Dru Drury .

Occurrence

The species occurs in the Caribbean and northern South America. The distribution area of Manduca brontes extends from Florida in the north via Cuba , the Cayman Islands , Jamaica , Haiti , the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico to Suriname in the south.

Way of life

The forage plants of the caterpillars of Manduca brontes include both trumpet trees of the Tecoma genus and white ash ( Fraxinus americana ), common ash ( Fraxinus excelsior ) and Fraxinus platycarpa . In Florida, the moths fly between April and June.
