Manfred Backerra

Manfred Backerra (* 1936 in Bendorf ) is a retired German colonel . D. and former senior lecturer in military communications at the command academy of the Bundeswehr .

Life

After graduating from high school, Backerra joined the Federal Border Police . In 1956 he became a lieutenant at the Army Officer's School in Hanover . He then switched to the Air Force and completed his general staff training as a major in 1969 . He then worked in the military intelligence department with posts in a higher command authority and the Federal Ministry of Defense . In between he was deputy commodore of an air force squadron for two years. In April 1979 Backerra was promoted to Colonel i. G. promoted and worked as a lecturer for military communications in the security policy and armed forces specialist group and as head of the military communications working group at the Bundeswehr leadership academy until 1998.

Political activity

Backerra was politically active in the Society for Defense and Security Policy (GfW) and was its Hamburg section head in the 1990s. Backerra has been the regional director of the State and Economic Policy Society (SWG) in Hamburg since the late 1990s, and its chairman since 2015.

In the course of the appearance of speakers from the right-wing extremist spectrum such as Manfred Roeder at the command academy of the Bundeswehr, Backerra came under media criticism. The implementation of an event organized by Backerra as section head of the GfW to deny Wehrmacht crimes in the auditorium of the Hamburg Defense Command 10 of the Bundeswehr was prohibited by the Bundeswehr in 1999. Backerra claimed in a publication that the SS fought “knightly” and “with great moral courage”.
