Manfred Bader (born April 4, 1953 ) is a former German soccer player. In 1971/72 he played for FC Karl-Marx-Stadt in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football . In 1970 he played an international match with the GDR junior national team .

Athletic career

In September 1970, the GDR junior national team played a number of international matches, and their team also included Manfred Bader, a Karl Marx townsperson. He was used on September 19 in the Finland - GDR game and was called up as a half-left striker in the 4-1 victory. At the age of 17, Bader was already playing with FC Karl-Marx-Stadt (FCK) in 1970/71 in the second-rate GDR league for promotion after FC had been relegated from the league in the previous season. Of the 15 league games played in the second half of the season, he played six games, three times as a striker in the starting line-up and scored three goals. The Karl-Marx-Städter managed to return to the top division within a year. The new coach Gerhard Hofmann saw Bader in the league season 1971/72 not in the regular eleven and only used him once in the league. When the regular striker Joachim Müller was canceled on the 5th matchday, Hofmann placed Bader in his place. Although Bader only played 68 minutes, his game was praised by several professionals. Nevertheless, Bader did not succeed in asserting himself in the men's division of the FCK in the period that followed. Even when his second team played in the GDR league from 1972/73, Bader only played a point game during this season and then initially disappeared from higher-class football for a long time. It was not until the 1977/78 season that he appeared again in the GDR league with the newly promoted Motor Ascota Karl-Marx-Stadt . With 17 appearances in 22 played point games, he was part of the player base and also scored one goal. However, Motor Ascota was only able to stay in the GDR league for one year. After Manfred Bader only played one league game and 24 GDR league games between 1970 and 1978, he then finally disappeared from the GDR-wide football leagues.
