Manfred Barth (born June 4, 1944 ) is a former German soccer goalkeeper. In the 1960s and 1970s he played for 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig in the GDR Oberliga , the top division in GDR football .

Athletic career

At the beginning of the 1968/69 season, 24-year-old Manfred Barth moved from the fourth-class company sports association (BSG) Lokomotive Delitzsch to 1. FC Lokomotive Leipzig, the region’s football focus. He was initially intended as a goalkeeper for the district league team 1. FC Lok II, but also made two appearances in the major league. He played as a striker, a position for which coach Georg Rosbigalle had not yet found a satisfactory solution. Since 1. FC Lok ended the season as relegated, he had to compete in the GDR league in 1969/70 . Barth was again not part of the regular squad and was only involved in the immediate resurgence of the Leipzig club with a goalkeeper assignment. As a second division, 1. FC Lok won the GDR soccer cup this season , Barth was involved in the quarter-final game Dynamo Dresden - 1. FC Lok (1: 2). For the 1970/71 season, Barth was nominated as the second goalkeeper behind Werner Friese , but he was only allowed to represent him twice in the league and again in the cup quarter-final match ( FC Carl Zeiss Jena - 1. FC Lok 2-1). 1971/72 Barth played without exception in the district league team. He had his most successful league season in 1972/73 when he was allowed to represent the long-term injured goalkeeper Werner Friese in six games in the first half of the season. He also played twice for the 2nd team that had been promoted to the GDR league. For the 1973/74 season Barth returned to Lok Delitzsch, where he played in the district league until 1984.
