Manfred L. Pirner

Manfred L. Pirner (* 1959 in Sulzbach-Rosenberg ) is a German Protestant theologian and professor of religious education .

Manfred L. Pirner studied high school teaching with subjects English and Protestant theology at the Universities of Erlangen and Glasgow. From 1989 to 1992 he worked as a teacher at the Dinkelsbühl grammar school , then as a research assistant at the chair for religious education at the University of Bamberg . He received his doctorate in 1997 and completed his habilitation in 2000. From 2000 to 2008 he taught as professor for Protestant theology / religious education at the University of Education in Ludwigsburg , most recently as dean of Faculty I. Since 2008 he has held the chair for religious education and didactics of the ev. Religious instruction at the Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg . In May 2014 he received the prize for outstanding teaching from the Bavarian State Ministry for Education and Culture, Science and Art .

His main research interests include: theology and education, Christian-sponsored schools, popular culture theology, media and religious education, interreligious learning, bilingual religious instruction, empirical research on teachers, teaching and socialization.

Pirner is married and has a daughter.
