Herzlia Pituach ( Hebrew הֶרְצֵלִיָּה פִּיתּוּחַ) is a district of Herzlia on the Mediterranean Sea with around 10,000 inhabitants. It belongs to the Tel Aviv district in Israel . The place is known for its high-tech industry and has several hotels and restaurants.

geography

The village is located directly on the Mediterranean Sea, about 15 km north of Tel Aviv and a few kilometers west of Herzlia. The place was created in a wide dune landscape, the remains of which are only visible in the south today.

traffic

The 0.5 km² Herzliya Marina is Israel's largest marina with 800 berths that can accommodate boats up to 40 meters in length. The harbor is protected by a one kilometer long breakwater . Restaurants, cafes, cinemas, the famous Arena Mall and holiday apartments were built there.

Highway 2, which connects Tel Aviv and Haifa as the motorway, runs through the town . The Sde Dov Airport in Tel Aviv is located a few kilometers south of Herzliya Pituach. The district is connected to Herzliya by public transport. Regular shuttles connect the industrial area with Herzliya train station.

Attractions

  • Arsuf : In the north of Herzlia Pituach are the ancient ruins of Apollonia (אפולוניה), which was founded by the Phoenicians more than 2,500 years ago. The site had a port and was an important anchorage in ancient times, and the site was also at a geostrategically important location between the port cities of Jaffa and Caesarea . In the 12th century a large crusader fortress was built here, which Baibars I conquered and razed in 1265 . Today the area is protected as Apollonia National Park. The ruins of the city and the fortress can be visited.
