Manfred Olbertz

Manfred Olbertz , completely Manfred-Hermann Olbertz (born January 14, 1926 in Breslau , † April 21, 2002 in Rostock ) was a German agricultural scientist and university professor.

Life

Olbertz graduated from high school in Breslau in 1944 and then came to Mecklenburg, where he began an agricultural apprenticeship in Kucksdorf (today part of Dettmannsdorf ). From autumn 1946 to 1950 he studied agricultural science at the Universities of Rostock and Greifswald . After taking the state examination in Rostock in 1950, he went to the Humboldt University in Berlin . Here he was a scientific assistant, after completing his doctorate in 1952, senior assistant at the Institute for Cultural Technology of the Faculty of Agriculture. In 1955 he completed his habilitation and in 1956 became a lecturer in soil improvement and applied soil science.

In 1956 he was appointed to the University of Rostock and was entrusted with the professorship for soil improvement and soil water management. In 1957 he received the professorship. From 1960 to 1968 he was director of the institute. From 1969 until his retirement in 1991 he was a full professor for site improvement.

Since 1972 he was a member of the Academy of Agricultural Sciences of the GDR .

With his wife Sabine Olbertz, geb. Scholz, Olbertz had two daughters and four sons. One of his children is the educational scientist Jan-Hendrik Olbertz .
