Manfred Pfeiffer (born February 9, 1942 ) is a former German soccer player . The defender played six league games at Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga and was twice in the DFB Cup .

Career

As an amateur, the 20-year-old was part of the Borussia squad in the last round of the old first-class football Oberliga West , 1962/63, but did not appear in any competitive game. Pfeiffer played from 1963 to 1968 as a supplementary player for Borussia Dortmund in the 1st Bundesliga . Dortmund usually reached one of the top places in the table during this time. Pfeiffer only played six games in the Bundesliga. At the home game on April 11, 1964 against the eventual runner-up Meidericher SV he made his debut with a 0-0 in the team of coach Hermann Eppenhoff . Before national goalkeeper Hans Tilkowski , he and Theo Redder formed the BVB defender couple.

In the 1964/65 season he came to his most missions as a licensed player from Borussia Dortmund. In the second Bundesliga season 1964/65 , Borussia Dortmund took third place in the table and Pfeiffer had contributed to this in five league games. He played against Hamburger SV (4: 1), 1. FC Köln (3: 3), Hannover 96 (0: 2), Hertha BSC (6: 3) and Munich 1860 (4: 4). In this round, the defender was also active internationally in the trade fair cup in two games against Girondins Bordeaux (4: 1, 0: 2) and in the second leg against Manchester United (0: 4). Dortmund won the DFB Cup on May 22, 1965 in Hanover with a 2-0 win against Alemannia Aachen. Pfeiffer played as a defender in the first cup main round on January 16, 1965, in a 1-0 away win against Preußen Münster. In front of goalkeeper Bernhard Wessel , he formed BVB's defense together with Theo Redder , Dieter Kurrat , Wolfgang Paul and Wilhelm Sturm as the left defender.

When Dortmund under the new coach Willi Multhaup reached the runner-up in 1965/66, he could no longer assert himself against the competition with Gerhard Cyliax , Lothar Geisler , Friedhelm Groppe and Theo Redder and did not play another Bundesliga game.

On January 2, 1966, he was a defender for the last time as a licensed player for Borussia Dortmund in the cup qualifying game against FC Bayern Munich in front of 30,000 spectators on Grünwalder Strasse in a 2-0 defeat. The Dortmund defense with goalkeeper Hans Tilkowski , the defender couple Redder-Pfeiffer and the runner row Kurrat, Paul and Geisler could not prevent the goals of the Munich attackers Rainer Ohlhauser and Gerd Müller . In the Bundesliga, the Borussia were runner-up, as well as the success in the European Cup Winners' Cup, he was no longer used.
