Manfred Richter (born September 1, 1941 in Leipzig ; † November 17, 1995 ), also known by the nickname Ratte , was a German football player who mainly played in midfield .

Player career

The midfielder was delegated to BSG Chemie Leipzig in 1963 when players were assigned to one of the two Leipzig clubs via the stations BSG Progress West Leipzig and SC Rotation Leipzig . The so-called “Rest of Leipzig” surprisingly won the GDR football championship in the 1963/64 season , with Richter playing in 14 of the first 17 point games. He then fell out due to a broken leg until the end of the season and only experienced the decisive game for the championship in Erfurt from the stands. Two years later he also won the FDGB Cup with Chemie Leipzig ; but he remained without commitment.

At the end of his active career, he played for BSG Motor Hermsdorf in the early 1970s. Manfred Richter has a total of 116 GDR league games and six goals. He has also played in four EC games for Leipzig.

family

Manfred Richter comes from a “real” family of footballers: his father Gerhard played at VfB Leipzig , with which he won the Tschammer Cup in 1936 , and at ZSG Industrie Leipzig , a predecessor of BSG Chemie. His brother Peter played in the reserve team of Chemie Leipzig and the BSG Chemie Böhlen .

In May 1995, his father died at the age of 79. Manfred Richter 's brother died unexpectedly in the same year, as did Manfred Richter himself in November. The trained machine fitter ran the "Waldluft restaurant" in Leipzig's Leutzsch district from 1981 until his untimely death at the age of 54, where the BSG Chemie is also established is rooted.
