Manfred Schnabel

Manfred Schnabel (born March 2, 1927 ) is a German professor , actor and theater director .

As a child, Schnabel began acting for the railroad association in Geilenkirchen . He attended school in Celle , where he also played at the baroque theater. After the Second World War he studied German language and literature as well as theater and newspaper studies for a few semesters. He then worked as an actor and assistant director in Gelsenkirchen . Then he went to the Komische Oper in East Berlin , Augsburg and the Zurich Opera House as assistant to the artistic director . In Heidelberg and Mannheim he was deputy director.

From the 1973/74 season he was director of the Hagen Municipal Theaters . There he was artistic director for 13 years. He then became the overall artistic director of the Theater and Philharmonic in Essen , the newly founded Aldo Music Theater . From 1975 to 1998 he was a professor at the University of Music and Dance in Essen .

Schnabel supports the Theater Düren in the Haus der Stadt and the Erna-Schiefenbusch-Gesellschaft Düren .

Schnabel has lived in Nideggen since 1992 .
